Breen Post 465

 Locally, The American Legion Auxiliary, Breen Post 465 Department of Iowa, remains an active 48-member unit, dedicated to community service and a host of charitable causes.  Image 
The post was formed in 1930 and is named after local serviceman, Leo C. Breen, who was killed in combat during World War I.  Breen Post 465 meets monthly to plan, organize and carry out a long list of activities whicch include:

  • Decorating 171 graves on Memorial Day
  • Poppy Sales
  • Recongnizing school personnel during National Education Week
  • Hosting a free community coffee each Veteran's Day
  • Hosting the annual Titonka Savings Bank Christmas Open House
  • Sponsoring pillow cleaning in alternate years
  • Holding a newly reinstated Memorial Day program to honor veterans, living and deceased
  • Sending sympathy cards, get well cards, congratulatory cards (new baby), anniversary cards and (significant) birthday cards to area residents
  • Mailing Christmas greetings to area service men and women
  • Mailing Valentines to Iowa VA hospitals
  • Providing hospital equipment loans to anyone in need.  Available through Pat Haines, the equipment includes most items except hospital beds
  • Saving cancelled stamps for Opportunity Villiage in Clear Lake
  • Donating money annually to the Kossuth County Food Pantry
  • Contributing annually to the Woden-Crystal Lake-Titonka High School scholarship program
  • Other community needs, for example, the post recently donated a sum of money to recarpet the front step at the Titonka Community Center.
  • And...good old-fashioned fun
