Ed and Clarine Boyken

Ed & Clarine Boyken

Ed was born in Titonka, at 435 Ripley St. NW. Clarine was born in rural Hamilton County (north of Ellsworth), Iowa. Ed graduated from Titonka High School in 1932 and attended Luther College for two years. Ed has been in banking all his life. Clarine attended Spring Valley rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1934. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers college in 1936. She came to Titonka in 1936, where she taught for three years. Ed and Clarine were married in 1939 and had five boys.

Clara Mayland

Clara was born in rural Titonka in January. Dr. Sartor came out to the house and stayed all night. She attended school in Titonka. Clara was married to Henry (Hank) Mayland in 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had six sons and one daughter, nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Before she was married, Clara worked as a hired girl for local families doing housework, chores, and gardening. They began farming right after they were married. She spent most of her married life as a homemaker, but Hank and Clara helped their daughter, Verlene, with the V&H (Verlene & Henry) Cafe from 1957 – 1958.

Loren Hansen

Loren Hansen

Loren was born in Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School. He was married to Gladys Harms on April 23, 1957. They had three children. Loren farmed, worked in the creamery, drove school bus, and took care of the Buffalo Township Cemetery for forty-two years, dug graves for twenty years and served as the Titonka Chief of Police for almost twenty years.

Harold Gingrich

Harold Gingrich

Harold was born on the farm. He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Lakota High School. Harold was married to Marie on July 18, 1943. He had four daughters. Harold farmed since high school and served in the military for four years.

Jim Mayland

Jim Mayland

Jim Mayland was born in Titonka, Iowa at Elsie Hansen’s house. He graduated from Titonka High School in 1967 and attended one year of technical school for computers. In 1958, he worked for the Titonka Telephone Company educating customers about circle digit dialing. Jim was in the Army and served in Vietnam, assigned to communications. He worked as a switch installer, central office technician and a switchman before returning to Titonka in 1977. Jim was the General Manager of Titonka Telephone Company for thirty years.
